Springs Farm Field Trips and Farm Tours
Field Trips and Farm Tours
One of our favorite activities is hosting school groups for an educational farm experience. We will teach you about raising strawberries, allow you to pick berries to take home, and show you around the farm riding in a wagon pulled by a farm tractor.
Our objective is to inform and entertain. We encourage questions and hope to develop a lasting relationship with all participants.
When are field trips available?
The tours at Springs Farm will start approximately May 3 and run through May 31 each year.
The tours are by reservation only and are offered Monday through Friday. Sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. and last approximately 1-1/2 hours each. If rain or extremely wet conditions cancel a trip, you will be contacted to reschedule. It is recommended that you book your field trip early as space is limited.
What's included in a field trip?
- The children are offered an age appropriate lesson on how strawberries are grown - from the beginning of planting until the berries are harvested.
- The children are given a container and allowed to pick their very own strawberries to take home.
- The group is then taken on a hayride/farm tour that lasts approximately 20 minutes.
- At the end of the hayride, all participants are given a strawberry ice cream, made with our own strawberries, and a coloring book.
- The field trip will last approximately 1-1/2 hours depending on the size of your group.
How much does the field trip cost?
The cost of a field trip is $8.00 per student. Teachers and chaperones will be free of charge for the farm activities. If adults choose to pick berries, they will be charged a discounted rate of $8.50 per gallon.
All tours must have a minimum of 10 paying participants. There is also a maximum of 90 participants per group to ensure that they will receive the best quality tour we can offer.
Please note that your reservation is not complete until you receive a confirmation from Springs Farm.
Time to Plan your Field Trip
If you have questions that we have not addressed, please email us at FarmTours@SpringsFarm.com, or call us at 803-548-3939. If no one is available to take your call, please leave a message indicating a convenient time for you to be reached.
We will email you a confirmation letter reserving your date. We will call you 3-4 days prior to your trip to confirm a final headcount of students, teachers and chaperones and to confirm the total cost of the trip.
Please have your payment prepared in advance. We will gladly accept checks made payable to Springs Farm.
We ask that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your field trip at Springs Farm Market, 1010 Springfield Parkway, so that we can check your school group in and ensure that your tour begins promptly. Unfortunately, we may not be able to extend your field trip time if you are late. A Springs Farm employee will then direct you to the strawberry field and the fun begins.
